Anthony Cacace Josh Warrington Moves Forward As Non Title Fight

Anthony Cacace-Josh Warrington Moves Forward As Non-Title Fight

Confirmed by Boxxer

Last month, Josh Warrington and Anthony Cacace appeared to have agreed to a 12-round lightweight bout on February 26 at First Direct Arena in Leeds. However, the fight was officially confirmed by Boxxer on Friday as a non-title fight.

Warrington (31-1-1, 8 KOs) is a former IBF featherweight champion, while Cacace (19-1, 7 KOs) is the reigning British lightweight champion. Recently, both fighters vacated their respective titles to pursue the much anticipated fight.

Warrington Stripped of IBF Title

The IBF stripped Warrington of his title due to his decision to face Cacace in a non-title fight. The governing body ordered Warrington to face mandatory challenger Luis Alberto Lopez. IBF president Daryl Peoples explained, "Warrington chose to reject our order, in favor of pursuing a non-title bout with Anthony Cacace. As a result, he has been stripped of his title."

Cacace, on the other hand, vacated his British lightweight title due to his move up to super-featherweight.

Eagerly Anticipated Match-Up

Despite the fight being a non-title bout, it remains one of the most highly anticipated matches of the year. Both Warrington and Cacace are known for their exciting and aggressive fighting styles. Fans can expect a thrilling and action-packed contest.
