Aegon II Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Elder, was the sixth Targaryen king to ascend to the Iron Throne, succeeding his father, Viserys I Targaryen. His rule was marked by dispute and conflict, as his claim to the throne was contested by his half-brother, Aegon the Younger.

Early Life and Accession

Born in 107 AC, Aegon II was the eldest son of King Viserys I and Queen Alicent Hightower. From a young age, he was groomed for kingship and received training in combat and statecraft. In 129 AC, upon his father's death, Aegon II claimed the throne and was crowned king.

The Dance of the Dragons

Aegon II's reign was overshadowed by the "Dance of the Dragons," a bloody civil war that erupted over his disputed claim to the throne. His half-brother, Aegon the Younger, supported by the Velaryon family and other powerful lords, challenged his rule. The war lasted several years and resulted in the deaths of countless dragons and the destruction of numerous castles and towns.

Outcome and Legacy

In 131 AC, after a series of setbacks and losses, Aegon II was captured and executed by his enemies. His death marked the end of the Dance of the Dragons and the triumph of his half-brother, Aegon the Younger, who became known as King Aegon III. Aegon II's reign is often remembered as a dark period in Targaryen history. His rule was characterized by violence, treachery, and the division of the realm. Despite his ambition and determination, he was ultimately defeated by the combined forces of his enemies.
