Justin Turner Officially Returns to Boston
Red Sox Sign Former All-Star to One-Year Contract
Turner Declines Player Option, Inks Deal with Blue Jays
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox have announced the signing of infielder Justin Turner to a one-year contract for the 2023 season. The 39-year-old two-time All-Star recently agreed to a one-year deal with the Blue Jays, but the Red Sox exercised their right to match the offer and bring Turner back to Boston.
Turner originally joined the Red Sox last offseason, signing a two-year deal with an option for the second year. However, he declined his $134 million player option with the Red Sox on Friday, making him a free agent.
The veteran infielder has been a key contributor to the Red Sox since his arrival, batting .280 with 25 home runs and 106 RBIs in his first season with the team. He is expected to play a significant role in Boston's lineup in 2023.
