Early Life and Career

Jesse Donald Knotts, known professionally as Don Knotts, was born on July 21, 1924, in Morgantown, West Virginia. He began his acting career in the early 1950s, appearing in small roles in films and television shows. In 1960, he landed the role that would define his career: Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife on "The Andy Griffith Show."

Knotts' portrayal of the diminutive, high-strung, and often hilarious Barney Fife was a smash hit with audiences. The character became one of the most beloved and iconic in television history. Knotts' comedic timing, exaggerated mannerisms, and razor-sharp wit made Barney Fife a fan favorite.

Later Career and Legacy

After "The Andy Griffith Show" ended in 1968, Knotts continued to act in films and television shows. He appeared in over 100 films, including "The Incredible Mr. Limpet" (1964), "The Shakiest Gun in the West" (1968), and "Herbie Rides Again" (1974). He also had a recurring role on the television series "Three's Company" from 1979 to 1984.

Don Knotts passed away on February 24, 2006, at the age of 81. He left behind a legacy of laughter and unforgettable performances that continue to entertain audiences to this day.
