Cameron Norries French Open Hopes Dashed

Cameron Norrie's French Open Hopes Dashed

Brit Departs Singles After Defeat to Lorenzo Musetti

High-Quality Highlights on Eurosport

Cameron Norrie's pursuit of a maiden French Open last 16 berth ended in disappointment on Friday, June 2, as he bowed out in straight sets to Italy's Lorenzo Musetti. Despite a spirited display, the British No. 1 succumbed to a 6-3, 7-6 (3), 6-3 defeat, ending his singles campaign at Roland-Garros.

Norrie, who reached the semifinals at Wimbledon last year, struggled to find his rhythm against the 20-year-old Musetti. The Italian, who had eliminated No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz in the previous round, showcased his remarkable talent with an array of breathtaking shots.

Norrie fought valiantly, saving a match point in the second set, but Musetti's consistency and power ultimately proved too much. The defeat marks the third consecutive year that Norrie has failed to progress beyond the third round at Roland-Garros, leaving him with a sense of frustration.

Despite the setback, Norrie can take solace in his impressive performance on the clay this season. He reached the semifinals in Lyon and the quarterfinals in Rome, proving his ability to compete at the highest level on the surface.

British fans, eager for their first male singles champion at Roland-Garros since Fred Perry in 1935, will now turn their attention to Dan Evans, the last remaining British singles player in the tournament. Evans faces Australian qualifier Alexei Popyrin in the third round on Saturday.
