Edwards was a highly touted recruit coming out of Holy Spirit Prep in Georgia. He was ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2019 class by ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports. Edwards committed to the University of Kentucky but decided to enter the NBA draft after his freshman season. He was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
